I’m Heidi, the person behind HandyBooks.
I help business owners keep their Xero accounts accurate, stay on top of their BAS compliance and, most importantly, understand what their numbers are telling them.
Who I work with
I work with Australian small business owners who want their books kept properly, their obligations taken care of and a clearer understanding of what their numbers are telling them.
You might be a tradie, service business, manufacturer, importer or exporter, restaurant, café, bakery or something completely different.
The industry matters less than the way you want to run your business.
If you value accurate, up-to-date bookkeeping, want someone you can talk to, and want to understand your numbers rather than just receive reports, we’ll probably be a good fit.
I work remotely with clients across Australia, as well as businesses locally on the Gold Coast.

BAS Compliance
You do the bookkeeping. I review it, prepare and lodge your BAS.
For business owners who are comfortable handling their own day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, but want me to review the key compliance areas and take care of their BAS and related obligations.

Full Bookkeeping
You run the business. I look after the books and your BAS compliance.
I take care of your day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, including payroll, BAS compliance and related bookkeeping obligations so your accounts stay accurate and up to date.

Strategic Partner
I look after the books and your BAS compliance - and help you look at the bigger picture.
Everything in Full Bookkeeping, plus budgets, cash flow planning, projections and regular strategic conversations to help you understand what your numbers are telling you and where your business is heading.
How my monthly pricing works
Simple, fixed monthly pricing based on the amount of bookkeeping your business actually needs.
I don’t charge by the hour for normal ongoing bookkeeping.
Your monthly price is based mainly on the number of transactions that need to be reconciled in Xero.
Fewer transactions = a lower monthly price.
More transactions = a higher monthly price.
And it works both ways.
If your business becomes quieter, your monthly price can come down. If your business grows and creates more bookkeeping work, your price can increase accordingly.
The goal is simple: your bookkeeping price should reflect the bookkeeping your business actually needs.

I work exclusively with Xero.
Using one accounting system keeps my processes consistent and efficient, which helps me keep my monthly pricing as competitive as possible.
Already using Xero? Great. I’ll review your existing file and work out what needs attention.
Using something else? That’s okay too. If you choose Full Bookkeeping or Strategic Partner, I can set up Xero and transfer the relevant balances from your existing software at no additional cost.

I use Dext Prepare to capture receipts and invoices and get the information into Xero efficiently.
You can send documents through the Dext app or your dedicated Dext email address, and I take it from there.
If you’re on a Full Bookkeeping or Strategic Partner, Dext Prepare is included at no additional cost while I’m looking after your books.
Meet Heidi
HandyBooks is me. And that’s the way I like it.
I’ve been working with small businesses and their numbers since 2005, and I’m a Registered BAS Agent.
There’s no big team hidden behind HandyBooks.
It’s me.
You deal directly with me, your books are looked after by me, and when you have a question, you contact me directly.
Over the years I’ve worked with all sorts of businesses, including trades, services, manufacturing, importing and exporting, restaurants, cafés and bakeries.
I also spent 12 years running Ampol service stations in Upper Coomera, so I understand that running a business is about much more than numbers on a spreadsheet.
I’ve been on the other side of the desk too - dealing with staff, suppliers, customers, cash flow, overheads, compliance and all the decisions that come with running a business.
Now I get to concentrate on what I genuinely love doing: helping business owners get their numbers right, understand what they’re telling them and make better business decisions.
I understand the numbers - but I also understand what it’s like to run the business behind them.

How getting started works

Tell me about your business
Make an enquiry and tell me what you need. If you’re already using Xero, I’ll ask for access so I can see how things are currently set up.
No complicated process. I look at your business first.

I review what you need
I’ll look at your Xero file where relevant, your bookkeeping requirements and the level of support that makes sense for your business

I send you a proposal
I’ll send you a tailored proposal showing what I’ll do, what’s included, your monthly price and anything that isn’t included.
You decide if you want to go ahead.

We get you set up
Once you’re ready to proceed, I’ll get Xero, Dext and everything else organised. Your ongoing service and monthly billing start on the 1st of the following month.
